What is Sextortion?
Sextortion extortion is a serious crime that occurs when someone threatens to distribute your private and sensitive material if you don't provide them images of a sexual nature, sexual favors, or money.

How To Prevent Sextortion - Education & Philosophy!
The communication and practice of Richard Guerry's "Public and Permanent™" philosophy - a.k.a. the Golden Rule of the 21st Century. All of us [as digital citizens] need to understand how to think and behave responsibly with very powerful digital tools and technologies.  Further, all citizens must understand the consequences - beyond just the legal ramifications - that frequently befall individuals that send sexually suggestive or explicit messages and images with digital tools.

Many individuals and organizations seem to be trying to "deal with" issues like sexting or sextortion only after the problem exists.  The massive lack of knowledge about how to prevent sexting - usually a precursor to sextortion -  is a major reason why this problem has become an epidemic.

Citizens do not need organizations to simply define sexting or sextortion. What each digital citizen needs is the education and philosophy necessary to know how and why it is important to prevent digital issues like sexting and sextortion - beyond just the immediate or legal ramifications. Further, all citizens must know how to effectively communicate the method of prevention to others in their community.

We don't prevent sexting and sextortion through informative websites, celebrities and conferences - but through an increase in social knowledge about the method and necessity for prevention! And this preventative wisdom must be communicated by those that make up society - its everyday citizens.

Sexting and sextortion focused web sites, statistics, conferences and surveys help illustrate an issue exists, and they can offer great tips about solving the problem, but this information typically only reaches those that are seeking it, or have the time to do the "research". There are many citizens who want to know more about these issues, but just don't have the time or means to attend conferences, workshops, or even do the necessary research online.

We know you are busy, and because you are so busy, research about digital safety and trends is not always a top priority, so we have listed sources below that bring vital information to you - the citizen - to arm you with information that will help you - and your community. Change Starts With You - So Please Get Informed!
